Adelaide’s Festival Bridge
Applications: Bridges
Location: Adelaide, South Australia, Australia
Completion Date: 2004
In a lifetime we embrace every possible opportunity. And so it was when Ronstan Architectural was called upon to assist with the structural cables for Adelaide’s Festival Bridge; a pedestrian bridge unique in its use of laminated glass for the 40m long bridge deck.
The bridge itself is part of a dynamic urban streetscape project completed in 2004 to revitalize the Festival Centre and promenade precincts of Adelaide. The bridge links two buildings of very different architectural significance, yet succeeds in retaining the identity of each of these buildings while also creating its own by using glass and steel in a way not often seen in civic structures.
The completion of the bridge represents one of the most iconic inclusions to the precinct since the completion of the Adelaide Festival Centre in 1972. The prominence of the bridge demanded materials of superior integrity and aesthetics and Ronstan ACS2 cables were a clear and winning choice.
