Project Overview:
Ronstan was contracted to design and engineer a two-story tensile curtain wall to separate the main foyer counter and stairs at Hobbs Brook Real Estate’s flagship property, 225 Wyman Street, in Waltham, Massachusetts. Collaborating closely with Fabrizio Architectural Millwork and Gensler, Ronstan meticulously developed an intricate curtain wall featuring a four-layered design. This design includes a tensile structural rod skeleton, overlaid perforated mesh panels, “monkey arms,” and decorative brass rods, all contributing to the sophisticated aesthetic and functional integrity of the space.
Design & Engineering:
Designing and engineering the curtain wall demanded innovative thinking and precision. Our team at Ronstan Tensile Architecture worked closely with Fabrizio Architectural Millwork, Gensler, and Blackwell to develop a solution that aligned perfectly with Hobbs Brook Real Estate’s vision. The use of tension rods and custom components was crucial in achieving both the design and structural objectives.
Products & Solutions:
For the 225 Wyman Street project, we supplied a comprehensive range of products, including Ronstan’s stainless steel structural rods, custom stainless steel spring assemblies, and custom brass rods and components. These products were chosen for their durability, flexibility, and aesthetics, ensuring both the structural integrity and visual appeal of the project. Fabrizio Architectural Millwork fabricated and supplied the perforated mesh panels and “monkey arms” based on Ronstan’s shop drawings.
Installation & Execution:
The 225 Wyman Street project posed unique challenges, especially with the complexity of the three-layer layout atop the tensile rod structure. Fabrizio Architectural Millwork’s team worked meticulously to ensure that every component was installed with precision, upholding the highest standards of quality and safety.
Outcome & Impact:
The successful completion of the 225 Wyman Street project has significantly enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the building’s lobby. The project was honored with a Merit Award by Architect magazine in the 2024 ARCHITECT’s Architecture & Interiors Awards, showcasing the value of our products and solutions in bringing the client’s vision to life.
