As part of Victoria’s Big Build, the new Silk Street pedestrian and cycling bridge now spans Lower Plenty Road at Yallambie, providing a safer connection for the local community. Delivered by the Spark North East Link Consortium, the upgraded bridge improves accessibility for walkers and riders while separating them from busy road traffic below.
Ronstan Tensile Architecture fabricated and installed the stainless-steel anti-throw and fall protection barriers that form the bridge’s edge protection. The Carl Stahl X-Tend® CXL Mesh panels, complete with their perimeter frames, were prefabricated in our Melbourne factory and installed prior to the bridge being craned into place. This approach streamlines construction while ensuring the barriers meet stringent safety and durability requirements. The project demonstrates how tensile mesh can provide transparent, secure, and low-maintenance protection on public bridges. This theme is explored further in our whitepaper on safety and fall protection mechanisms.
