Australia’s first dedicated cardiac care facility, the Victorian Heart Hospital sets a new benchmark in patient-centred healthcare design and delivery. Located on the Monash University Clayton campus, the new facility combines advanced clinical services, cardiac research, and medical education under one roof.

Ronstan was engaged to design and supply a Vertical Cable Barrier system as part of the hospital’s architectural vision. Positioned within the heart of the building, this cable solution contributes to the vertical transparency of the space, providing essential fall protection while maintaining sightlines across the open atrium and landscaped central courtyard.

The barrier system integrates discreetly with the surrounding architecture, aligning with the building’s broader emphasis on natural light, spatial clarity, and material warmth. The slender stainless steel cables offer both safety and subtlety, complementing the hospital’s biophilic and salutogenic design principles that promote healing through a connection to nature.

Ronstan’s scope on this project reflects our expertise in tensile architecture, delivering safety-critical solutions without compromising on aesthetics. As part of a world-class design team, we are proud to contribute to a facility that represents the future of integrated healthcare in Australia.
