Of all our recent bridge installations, none demonstrate the benefits of cable stayed construction quite like Bellevue Bridge.

The application of lightweight and spidery “tree like” canopy supports accentuate the minimalist cable stayed bridge design, reflecting the approach taken by engineer and architect towards the optimization of structural and aesthetic performance.  The efficiency of the cables, the “lightness” and translucence of the canopy, and the slender lines of the masts and deck, all combine in a structure of unique elegance and function.

Ronstan Tensile Architecture was contracted to meet tight specifications in its supply of the 16 structural stainless steel mast cables. The cables comprised twelve 28mm diameter forestay cables and four 36mm diameter backstay cables.

The combination was engineered to provide essential stiffness of the cable stayed bridge preventing vibration and movement. The cables were manufactured from 316 Stainless Steel 1×61 construction strand with Type 3 turnbuckles and fixed jaw fork fittings to facilitate adjustment and connection.
